An
Artist's Journey into the World of the Geisha
Encompassing 25 years of research and a thousand years of Japanese culture,
Shizumi presents Artist's Journey, an interpretation of the history of Japanese women and the art, nuance, and women of Geisha.
Shizumi draws back the veil on this mysterious cultural icon, presenting the artistry of dance, kimono, visual arts, waka
poetry, and communication required by the living art of Geisha while giving insights into the dual nature of the Geisha world,
artistically and personally.
In this multimedia performance, Shizumi offers insights into the traditional world and
the internal expression of Geisha as she demonstrates the complicated external preparation. Following her transformation,
Shizumi, accompanied by traditonal and original music, displays the beautifully nuanced, elegant sensuality unique to Geisha
as she highlights the dance and emotions intrinsic to this curious world.
Performances for fall and winter 2008/2009
and spring 2009 will be posted shortly. For up-to-date information, including information on Shizumi Kodomo Dance Troupe,
